Here we go. I’ve always thought about creating a blog but never really thought I would take the next step and actually do it. Years ago, I bought this domain as a Valentine’s day gift for my then boyfriend later husband, Michael. As an eternal geek, I couldn’t think of a better gift than a domain of your last name. After we were engaged to be married, it became our wedding website where we posted information on our nuptial celebration. Now that we have been happily wed for over a year, I struggled to figure out what to do with this site. One day (yesterday), I decided it was about time to have a blog. So here we are.
A couple of my friends have blogs. I am not a regular blog reader and I’m not really sure of what I want to say but I’ve always been told I am very opinionated. Whether or not anyone really cares to read/hear my opinions is an entirely different story. I guess we’ll find out soon since I’ve installed the stats plug-in. Big brother (or sister) is always watching.
As for the name Vernal Equinox: My maiden name was Viau which is a derivation of Vieux or ‘old’ in French. When I married the love of my life and took his name, Verna, I decided to research it a bit. Verna is of Latin origin meaning ‘spring, green, flourishing’– what a departure from ‘old’! I love the concept that my name means spring and green. All my life, my favorite color has been green so I feel it’s kismet. My love of green is so strong that my husband knew to get me an emerald engagement ring.
Spring represents rebirth. We shake off the winter blahs and embrace the change of spring. The world recreates itself and everything is fresh, new and green. In a week, the Vernal Equinox will arrive and herald the spring. So with the spring comes our opportunity to flourish. I am embracing this rebirth with my marriage and my life and will hopefully chronicle this idea with my blog.
Thank you for joining me on this journey.
